Sringeri Sharada Peetham
Sri Sharada Peetham’s activities revolve around the sustenance of Sanatana Dharma, derive inspiration from the lives of its Jagadguru Shankaracharyas and their exemplary and unflinching adherence to the principles laid down in the Shastras.
Over the last couple of centuries, the activities of the Sri Sringeri Math towards the sustenance and propagation of Sanatana Dharma have intensified. The Jagadgurus of the Peetham began touring extensively establishing branches of Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri in holy towns and important locations, and setting up traditional learning schools or Pathashalas.
The importance of Dharma is declared in the Upanishads thus धर्मो विश्वस्य जगतः प्रतिष्ठा (Dharma is the firm foundation upon which the entire universe rests).
The Shastras declare वेदोऽखिलो धर्ममूलम् (the Vedas are the foundation of all Dharma). For fostering the study of Vedas, Sri Sharada Peetham runs a number of Veda Pathashalas throughout India. Sri Sadvidya Sanjeevini Samskrita Pathashala was established in 1895 at Sringeri by Jagadguru Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Narasimha Bharati Mahaswamiji. The Peetham runs a number of Pathashalas throughout the country. Patashalas function in many of the branches of the Peetham (Sringeri Shankara Maths) including Bangalore, Mysore, Siddapura, Kalady, Srirangam, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Hyderabad, Narasaraopet, Rajahmundry, Madurai, Shenkotai, Varanasi, Prayag, Indore and many more. The Peetham also monitors and supports the running of Pathashalas in Palghat , Madurai, Melmangalam, Rajapalayam, etc.
The Math runs a number of Go Shalas across India. Financial Assistance is also provided to many Go shalas across the country.
Sri Sharada Peetham lays great importance on preserving ancient temples and renovating dilapidated temples. Most of the Kumbhabhishekas performed by the Sringeri Jagadgurus are at ancient temples or renovated temples.
The Peetham extends support to the construction of new temples. Since the later part of the 20th century, the Sringeri Jagadgurus have consecrated hundreds of newly built temples.
The Peetham takes great interest in promotion of Sanskrit, the language of the Shastras. The Pathashalas run by the Peetham lay stress on Sanskrit education.
The present Shankaracharya, Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji effected the establishment of a Sanskrit University in Kalady, the birthplace of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya. The efforts of the Mahaswamiji also brought to Sringeri and Karnataka a deemed University to propagate Sanskrit Studies – The Rajiv Gandhi Kendriya Samskrita Vidya Peetham of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi.
Sri Surasaraswathi Sabha was established with an objective of promoting the study of Sanskrit among people. The Sabha conducts Sanskrit examinations and honors meritorious students who pass the examination with distinction.
The Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sringeri is widely revered as the supreme authority in the Shastras. The Peetham hosts a number of conferences called Vidwat Sadas where in Shastra scholars participate to expound and deliberate on various intricate aspects of the Shastra.
The annual Mahaganapati Vakyartha Vidwat Sabha conducted for about 12 days during the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival is unmatched in the scholarship of the discussions, that take place entirely in Sanskrit under the presidentship of the Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sringeri. Invitation to this Sabha is extended to about 50 of the brightest of the scholars across the country. The scholars deliberate for about an hour on a chosen topic in one of the four Shastras – Advaita Vedanta, Mimama, Vyakarana or Nyaya. The Sringeri Jagadguru is present throughout the 4-hour session every day and mediates the discussions and delivers verdicts.
Over the past couple of decades, Sri Sringeri Math has felt the need to conduct Vedic Sammelans throughout the country to give a thrust to traditional education by conducting Veda Parayana, honouring proficient scholars and encouraging students to excel in their branch of study. The annual Sammelans are being held in Varanasi, New Delhi and Maharashtra for more than 15 years now. In the recent years, the Math has also been organising Sammelans in Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Uttar Pradesh. The Sammelans are achieving success in bringing together on a common platform Vedic scholars from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Haryana. Each year, these annual Sammelans honour about 2000 Vedic scholars.
Sri Sharada Peetham conducts a number of Yagas or sacrifices including Ati Rudra Mahayaga, Sahasrachandi Mahayaga, Maharudra Yaga, Shatachandi Yaga involving hundreds of Ritwiks/pandits with the primary intention of sustaining Dharma and the welfare of the world.
Under the Veda Parayana scheme, the Math engages reputed Vedic scholars to perform Parayana of the Vedas.
The Peetham also has a scheme to honour aged Vedic scholars and supports more than thousand scholars, priests and social workers with a monthly stipend.
Sri Sringeri Math publishes many traditional texts at subsidised price to propagate Sanatana dharma. The Math has its own printing press which enables us to publish books at subsidised rates.
The centre ‘Saraswati Pustaka Bhandara’, has an old collection of manuscripts, historical records and books in the archives of the Math and carries out preservation activities of old manuscripts of Sri Math.
The Centre has collection of books related to Veda, Sthotras, Purana and history. The centre has digitalized the historical books and manuscripts for conserving them for the future generation. There are over 1,500 manuscripts dating back to 1200 AD, over 1,500 handwritten documents since 1,500 AD and books published after 1850. The manuscripts provide peep into the history of Vijayanagara rulers, Keladi rulers, Hyder Ali, Tippu Sultan, Mysore Odeyars, British and their relationship with the Sringeri mutt.
Under the Scheme of this Yajna, any individual may recite by memory all the 700 verses of the 18 Chapters of the Gita, and obtain a certificate with a reward of Rs.21,000 and be a recipient of the Benign Blessings of the Jagadguru.

In the present-day, in an increasingly adhesive society where barriers of distances and boundaries are being broken and the world is evolving into a global village, Sri Sringeri Math has widened its areas of contribution to involve education, healthcare, and many social and charitable activities.
Nitya Annadana is served to the all devotees in the afternoon and night. Daily Annadana is served to more than 20000 people. Annadana Prasada is also provided to many schools, colleges, old age home and hospitals in and around Sringeri. Nitya Annadana is served to all devotees without any discrimination on grounds of caste, religion, creed etc.
Sri Sringeri Math provides midday meals to schools daily where more than 10000 children get sumptuous nutritious food.
This is a 150 bed Hospital that provides multidisciplinary facility offering round the clock emergency services. The consultation for all and the food for in-patients are free. There is no discrimination on ground of caste, creed, sex and religion in providing treatment in the hospital.
We have almost finished construction of a new building to provide quality healthcare services and accommodate more number of patients in sringeri.
“Traditional Authentic Ayurveda Kendra” started from November 2016 and running successfully in association with ‘Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam’. It is centered at calm and pleasant atmosphere of Western Ghats. Panchakarma and all other traditional ayurvedic treatments are undertaken with inpatient ward facilities.
In order to provide opportunities to educated unemployed youth it is our avowed objective to start a nursing institute in Sringeri. The Government of Karnataka State Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council has recognized the Institution. Our Hospital Sri Rangadorai Memorial Hospital run by Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham Charitable Trust is a 210 bedded multi-speciality hospital with one of the largest dialysis centres in the state with 84 beds is providing Medical relief at subsidized rates to the poor and needy.
The Math also runs Eye and Dental Hospital in Bangalore which provides subsidised treatment including free cataract operations for poor.
Sri Sharada Ayurveda Clinic, Bangalore provides specialised therapies and has manufactured over 50 Ayurvedic products.
Sri Rajarajeshwari Memorial Hospital at Guntur is providing quality medical facilities at affordable costs. The Hospital is also empaneled under Arogya Sri Scheme of the State Government and and AB PM Jay Ayushman CAPF scheme of Central Government.
Medical camps are conducted regularly in many rural villages where consultation, medicines and treatment are done free of cost.
Every year, Sri Sringeri Math organises medical camps to distribute free artificial Limbs to more than thousand beneficiaries. Those with amputated legs or arms get the limb fitted free of cost.

Sri Sringeri Math runs schools for children with special needs, specifically in the areas of learning disabilities, autism and related disorders.
Deepika School is a School for special children struggling with learning disability (dyslexia and related issues) and autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability. Children with autism receive Sensory Integration Therapy, speech and language training and music therapy. The School has presented papers in multiple conferences, national and international on varied topics such as music therapy, spirituality in the Intellectually Disabled, Lifetime support for the Learning Disabled, Counselling, Arts Based Therapy for Autism, Storytelling through Yoga, Play therapy and many more.
Shankara Special School, NOIDA is an organization works towards the Equity and the Inclusion of the Individuals with Special Needs in the Society. At Shankara Vidyashrama, we believe that every individual has their abilities hence we try and polish them so as to give them an equal opportunity where they can prove that they are DIFFERENTLY ABLED AND NOT DISABLED, and they too can become asset to the society.
We currently cater to 150 underprivileged children along with 25 special children for academic and social inclusion. We believe awareness creates acceptance which can only bring about Inclusion.

Kalaangana is a unique cultural festival in art, music, and dance for special needs children held in Bangalore by Information Resource Center (IRC). Children from all over India participate in this festival.
